What are cookies?

Cookies are small files that are stored on your hard drive. A distinction is made between so-called session cookies, which are deleted after you close your browser, and persistent cookies, which are stored on your terminal device for a longer period of time.

In addition, we distinguish the purposes for which cookies are set. Technically necessary cookies are required so that the website and the applications provided on it function properly. With the performance cookies, we can evaluate on an anonymous basis how our website is used. They also allow us to check whether our website is functioning correctly. Targeting cookies help us to improve our advertising presence.

Currently, only technically necessary cookies are used on our website. Therefore, we do not require your consent. If the cookie policy changes, you will be informed about it when you visit the website and you can agree or disagree with it.

Why do we use cookies?

Some cookies support the proper functioning of the website (e.g. to keep you logged in during your visit to our website). Other cookies allow us to analyze website usage and improve our advertising presence. We currently do not use performance or targeting cookies.

What cookies does this website use?

Technically necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary for our website to function and cannot be disabled in our systems. Generally, these cookies are only set in response to actions you take that correspond to a service request, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling out forms. You can set your browser to block these cookies or to notify you of these cookies. However, some areas of the website may not function properly if you do so.

  • Used cookies:
  1. ARRAffinity and ARRAffinitySameSite

The purpose of ARRAffinitySameSite and ARRAffinity cookies is the same - they help to direct requests to the correct instance in load-balanced environments.

The only difference between them is the SameSite attribute. ARRAffinitySameSite was introduced when Chromium-based browsers enforced the new SameSite policy in 2020. However, some old browsers do not support the SameSite attribute and Azure keeps the cookie ARRAffinity for backward compatibility.

  2. cookie-agreed and cookie-agreed-version

The purpose of these cookies is to cache the selection of accepted cookies and their version. Therefore you don't have to select your cookie settings again

  3. Session cookies

The server creates a “session ID” which is shared with the client. The ID or session identifier is a randomly generated number which temporarily stores the session cookie. It is used to assign a session to an individual user. The session identifier has one major advantage: when multiple tabs belonging to the same website are opened, they’re assigned to a single session. In this way, multiple inquiries can be launched without losing important personal information.

The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDRP) which took effect in May 2018 enforced new rules on cookie use. Website owners are now obligated to inform users about the storage of their data. Individuals need to explicitly consent to the use of tracking cookies. However, the same does not apply to session cookies because without them the function of web pages would be seriously impaired. Session cookies are likely also going to be an exception in the ePrivacy regulations to be implemented by the end of 2023.

Performance cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits and identify access sources in order to determine and improve the performance of our website. They help us answer questions about which pages are most popular, which are least used, and how visitors move around the site. All information collected by these cookies is aggregated. If you do not allow these anonymized cookies, we will not be able to customize our website to meet the needs of our users and will not detect errors on the website.

  • Used cookies: None.

Targeting cookies

These cookies may be set through our website by our advertising partners. They can be used by these companies to profile your interests and show you relevant ads on other websites. They work by uniquely identifying your browser and device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will not experience our targeted advertising on other websites.

  • Used cookies: None.

What if i don't accept cookies?

You can set your browser to block all cookies or to notify you about the cookies to be set. If this setting also prevents technically necessary cookies from being set, some areas of the website may no longer function properly.

Which is the legal basis for the usage of cookies?

We base the setting of technically necessary cookies on the E-Privacy Directive and its implementation in the Telecommunications Telemedia Data Protection Act (TTDSG).
